The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates in its “Renewables Capacity Statistics 2025” that annual growth in renewable capacity worldwide reached 15.1% in 2024, setting a new record.
The 585 GW addition last year means renewable power capacity reached 4 448 GW at the end of 2024, with the majority of this growth occurring in Asia – China accounts for almost 64% of the global added capacity – and G7 and G20 countries respectively accounting for 14.3% and 90.3% of new capacity in 2024.
