US Congress to propose allowing RTOs/ISOs to fast-track dispatchable generation

bill introduced in the U.S. Congress by two Republican lawmakers aims to facilitate the processing of dispatchable power generation projects, to provide more and predictable electricity supply.

This legislation would allow grid operators to prioritize these projects in interconnection queues to enhance grid reliability and resilience. The proposed “Grid Power Act” would give the FERC 60 days to review proposals from grid operators and 180 days to finalize the necessary rules.

Most recently, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission had reviewed a proposal by GO15 member PJM Interconnection that would give 50 generating projects that meet reliability-oriented criteria a one-time, fast-track interconnection review.
