More than 2.5 million homes and businesses in Texas lost power after Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the state, after first touching Mexico in the first days of July. Tropical storms had first struck the north of the Mexican Yucatan peninsula, leading to trees falling, power lines being cut and high level of damage on dwellings.
In Texas, several power outages occurred in Houston and areas to the southeast of the state, close to where the storm made landfall shortly before 4 a.m. local time on July 8th. Impressive wind gusts and heavy rain have knocked out numerous electric lines. Close to 200 000 customers were still without power one week after the event across Texas.
