A team at the French Institut de transition énergétique (ITE, Institute for Energy Transition) “SuperGrid Institute” just launched a 27 cubic-meters platform to test current generators reaching up to 200 kilo volts per second, as a way to figure how future power grids can support a safe and efficient energy transition.
This project required an investment of 46 million euros from public and private sponsors, further helped by 10 million euros from the Auvergne-Rhône Alpes Region. The ITE is also working on the North Sea Wind Power Hub to connect Britain’s and Northern Europe’s offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the European power grid.
