Britain’s National Energy System Operator (NESO) has confirmed the activation of the country’s first Grid Forming Battery in Scotland, marking a significant milestone for the operator and the British electricity grid.
This initiative is part of NESO’s “Stability Phase 2 Pathfinder”, which is estimated to help save around £500 million and aims to:
- Secure future network resilience
- Support the transition to zero-carbon operation by 2025
- Contribute to the delivery of Clean Power by 2030
This action will also help phase out carbon-emitting power stations and introduce greater competition and value for consumers by 2035, ensuring the long-term resilience and security of Great Britain’s electricity system.
