Britain’s NESO confirms the connection of the first Grid Forming Battery in Scotland

Britain’s National Energy System Operator (NESO) has confirmed the activation of the country’s first Grid Forming Battery in Scotland, marking a significant milestone for the operator and the British electricity grid.

This initiative is part of NESO’s “Stability Phase 2 Pathfinder”, which is estimated to help save around £500 million and aims to:

  • Secure future network resilience
  • Support the transition to zero-carbon operation by 2025
  • Contribute to the delivery of Clean Power by 2030

This action will also help phase out carbon-emitting power stations and introduce greater competition and value for consumers by 2035, ensuring the long-term resilience and security of Great Britain’s electricity system.
