The British government has confirmed it would take control of the National Energy System Operator (NESO) power grid, following a decision taken in the last few months by the last government.
This entity will be acquired through a £630m deal and will also be responsible for overseeing the country’s gas network, in accordance with the government’s goal to reach a net-zero energy system by 2030. The ESO current director, Fintan Slye, will become the chief executive of NESO.
According to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, NESO will “have a huge role to play in delivering our mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower” through an “impartial, whole-system expertise on building a network that is fit for the future”.
