In the face of the ongoing heat waves which have stricken both southern Europe and North Africa and in an effort to mitigate gas consumption, the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has resorted to power cuts across the country in the last few days.
Such temporary load shedding is due to increased reliance on air conditioning, increasing power demands and grid loads.
Despite expanding capacity over the last decade, Egyptian electricity providers rely on natural gas to generate electricity, creating price pressures on the market.
