The construction of the 1.4 GW NeuConnect interconnector, the first power cable between Germany and the UK, has begun, with first operations planned for 2028.
The 2.8 billion euros project is financed by France’s Meridiam, Allianz Capital Partners, Japan’s Kansai Electric Power and a consortium of more than 20 banks and financial institutions, including the UK Infrastructure Bank and the European Investment Bank.
The 725km interconnection will ultimately contribute to bolstering energy security and integrating renewable energy sources in both countries.
