The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) Board of Directors approved a portfolio of 18 transmission projects in MISO’s Midwest Subregion, established through significant collaboration between MISO members and stakeholders, including regulators and policymakers.
These critical projects represent the first of four planned tranches in MISO Long Range Transmission Planning (LRTP) process, part of MISO’s regional plan to ensure the continued reliable delivery of cost-effective electricity to the 42 million U.S. consumers living in the MISO region.
These transmission projects address complex challenges impacting electric reliability across the power grid, which include, but are not limited to, a decline in conventional generation, a rapid increase in renewable generation, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
